Flickr messed up with me, because you can only upload 200 pictures in the free version. Of course, they tell you only when you exceed the limit – if I would have known it before, I would have chosen another provider. So it happens now! Picasaweb offers 1 GB space for you, which is generous. Unfortunately it messes up the pictures a little bit. Look at the dark borders (like at the seaweed on the beach), click to enlarge the photos!

Neverless, the rest of the Ireland pictures you will find at picasa.

Yesterday I arrived back in Leeds after a 8 hour ferry trip from Belfast to Liverpool. It was really a nice journey, not only with rain, but with a lot of sunshine. I even got a bad sunburn. It would be too much to tell you everything in one post. I will upload the pictures to Flickr step by step, and tell you a little bit each time.

By the way, for viewing the pictures on Flickr, I can recommend you the Firefox Plugin (IE and safari also work) called Cooliris. It makes viewing pictures really fast, fun and nice-looking.

Dublin near Harbour

It begins with Dublin, where I arrived comming from Leeds-Bradford airport. Spent there a night at a hostel which is a former recording studio used by bands like U2. In the evening there was a concert in the livingroom by a band called Bailer. I enjoyed it even though this is not the kind of music I usually listen to. I met some girls from Saxonia and Austria there and our plan was to go to a pub after the concert, but we got stuck at the hostel talking and when we looked at the clock, it was already to late. The pubs in Ireland close at around 1am!

The next day I already moved on to the south of Ireland, to Youghal (pronounced somehow like Yawl or Yow-awl). It was a 5h journey by bus, and somewhere in the south the wether suddenly became quite sunny and warm, it almost felt like southern europe. But I will tell you about Youghal the next time!

Hi, I started my trip to Ireland now and am currently in Limmerick, where I use the time waiting for the bus to use the internet. I will go to Doolin today, which is a nice little village at the west coast. I have been to Dublin before, which I really liked. Met nice people in the hostel (most of them Germans), and there was a nice band playing. After Dublin I went to Youghal (pronounced somehow like Yawl or Youawl). The first day there was really nice weather, see the pictures below. The hostel there was quite empty with only two guests including me, but this was allright because I could use some rest.

Carnival Float

Yesterday was the climax of the carnival, the big float with people in costumes, trucks with banging soca music and a great party atmosphere. It is amazing how much effort was put into all the costumes!

Tomorrow I will leave to Ireland! I will try to keep you up to date, but it depends on how often I get access to an internet point. My first stop will be Dublin.

Makaila just told me why she thinks she only got the 3rd place at the calypso contest: most judges where from Saint Kitts, as the winning singer. So, being from Barbados, she had no chance to win.

reggae concert

Carnival continues. Today there was a big festival called “Leeds Reggae Concert” in a park just 5 minutes by foot away from my home. It was not only reggae, also dancehall, hiphop and gospel. The big Jamaican reggae star Luciano was supposed to sing, but either he did not, or I missed him. Instead I saw the popular dancehall star Busy Signal, who made the girls scream. The weather was really nice (for english circumstances, which means sunny and about 22°C) so everybody was enjoying it. Here are some pictures:

Calypso Show

Yesterday we were at a calypso show which is part of the west indian carnival this weekend. Makaila, my housemate and landlady, did sing there. It was a competition, unfortunately she only got the 3rd place, although she did quite well, as I think. But judge for yourself!

Well, I promised you pictures. Since I don’t have a photo camera right now, here is a picture of the Leeds Met campus webcam with me sitting on the first bench (with a little bit of fantasy you could even recognize me )
